Russian Tanker “Renda” in the Bering Sea, January 2012 (Wikipedia Commons)
Dickins Associates received a grant from the Oil Spill Recovery Institute in Cordova Alaska, May 2026, to develop an integrated oil spill risk profile for the Bering Strait region that reflects the significant increase in vessel traffic—both the number and size of vessels—seen over the past ten years. The study will provide agencies and responders with a complete, up-to- date picture of the increasing spill risks now emerging in the Bering Strait region. These risks are closely related to the expanding use of the Russian Northern Sea Route by tankers and cargo vessels.
